How it all began

My sister and I go to one store and one store only on black Friday… PetSmart. We both had dogs at the time and that was the day we would always go and get our dogs Christmas gifts because they were too freaking expensive any other time. We stroll in and of course go strait for the collars and toys, and then picked out an array of fun and exciting dog toys. She grabbed a beautiful new collar for her cockapoo and we headed for the checkout (I got an adorable Christmas collar for my black lab which is red with Christmas trees and have never looked back, so I forgo the yearly new Christmas collar). But then I saw it, a huge beautiful 60-gallon tank with stand and lighting, and get this… it was 60% off!!!!!!!! I knew I had enough in my account to by that thing right there and then, and like every sane person would have done, I bought it.

My sister and I drove home and informed our parents that they needed to go and pick up a 60-gallon fish tank from PetSmart, which they were a bit confused about, and after some explaining my dad got the keys for the bigger car and we drove to retrieve it. Once we got it fully situated in my room I thought I should probably check and see how they suggested you set up a tank. I was under the impression you just filled it up, put some water treatment stuff in it, and dumped all the fish you could possibly dream off directly into it, then I could just sit back and occasionally change the filter. Sooooo yeah it doesn’t work like that. I ended up learning that your supposed to Sycle your tank, research each specific fish species and make sure they’re compatible with the other fish you have, do biweekly 25% water changes, test your water and make sure your chemicals are balanced, keep the water at a certain temperature amongst a multitude of other things.

I’m having so much fun with this tank so far and I’m going to try and keep updated consistent. I’ll go over the stuff I’ve already done, stuff I plane to do, and stuff currently going on in my tank. I hope this blog is not only helpful but also interesting. Enjoy.
